Workshops and Lectures

The following workshops and lectures are available.  Please contact me to arrange dates and contracts.

In the fall of 2017, I completed training with Eleanor Burns as a certified Quilt in a Day Teacher.
As a result of this training,  I have expanded my class offerings to include techniques and quilt patterns from Quilt In A Day.

My NEW Lecture highlights Quilt In A Day patterns and how they have inspired and supported me through my personal quilt journey.

**NEW**Lecture - 1 Hour - Quilting on the Island through the "Quilt In A Day" Lens

This one hour lecture contains highlights of Quilt in A Day patterns and quilts as they have played out within my personal quilt journey. From traditional Log Cabin Quilts to "Forty Fabulous Years with Eleanor Burns", tops and quilts from my Quilt In A Day stash will be shared.

Lecture - 1 Hour - My Life in Quilts or Every Quilt Tells a Story

This one hour lecture details the progression of my quilting life.  From self taught beginnings, (you can really make a quilt top during a one week vacation) to teaching others during Open Sew classes and making shop samples, selected quilt tops from my stash will be highlighted during this lecture. From "It's all about the fabric" to my favorite question to students, "Can you see it from here?" this lecture will hopefully provide inspiration and validation to all levels of quilters.

Workshop - "Quick Trips"

Five Hour All Day workshop for novice to more experienced quilters
Students will construct at least one half of a "baby" sized "Quick Trips" quilt.

Focused students can complete the top during the session.

This workshop is suitable for and can be adapted to a multi-week Beginners Class.

Workshop - Designing Out of Your Box
Two day option suitable for all levels of quilters
One day class suitable for quilters comfortable with color theory and basic unit construction.

This six hour workshop will push students "out of their box" as they explore and design their own quilt top.  Pre-sewing of basic units such as fence rails, nine patches, four patches and half square triangle will ensure that there is enough time to experiment with design and piece the quilt top during this workshop.  The class is structured so that students receive instruction in quilt design elements such as balance, symmetry and asymmetrical quilt design as they strive to construct a top approximately 45 x 60 inches without borders.

A two day option is also offered which highlights fabric selection and construction of units that will be used to design the quilt top in day two.

Workshop - It's a Scrappy Mystery!
One day class suitable for all levels.

This six hour workshop brings students through the steps to construct a scrappy 45 x 60 scrappy top.  Based on an old favorite, students utilize 1.5 and 2.5 light and dark strips from their stash and combine the strips with either a dark or light background fabric.  A bit of power sewing is involved if the required nine patches are not constructed prior to class.

Workshop - Batik Sampler

This six hour class utilizes one jelly roll, or 40 - 42 strips 2.5 inches wide, to make friendship stars, nine patches, square in a square blocks, flying geese, four patches and a piano keys border to make an approximately 44 x 56 inch quilt top.  The piano keys border is designed in class but is applied after class to finish off the quilt.  Instructor will assist students in analyzing their jelly rolls so that an attractively designed quilt results.  Enough elements for a quilt top and an overall design for the quilt top can be made in class so that with minimal additional sewing time at home the top can be completed.

Workshop - "Romance Rose" Table Mat

The “Romance Rose” Pattern from the Quilt In A Day company offers instruction for making multiple blocks for a quilt or table runner. For this workshop, students will be making one block that can be used as a small table mat or hot mat. Kits are provided for $15.00 and include the pattern, all fabrics, batting and backing needed to make a mat approximately 10 inches square. In addition instruction sheets will be provided for any specific techniques or tools used in the workshop.
