Planning for 2023 and Thinking

The trouble with being home is that you have time to think.

Think about new projects.

Think about old projects.

Think about half finished projects.

And think about new projects again.

So before the year is over, I am planning for 2023 and doing lots of thinking.

New project for me -

Part 4 of Bonnie Hunter’s Winter 2022 Mystery Quilt.  Parts 1, 2, and 3 are all cut and ready to be sewn when  I can safely sit at a sewing machine.

Hopefully in the very near future!

Old projects to complete -( the ones with only a little to complete)

From a Laundry Basket Quilts pre cut kit.
Only a few more blocks to make in this “Alaska” quilt.

Some blocks that need to be changed to match the pattern.
Now to find the pattern!
It has been months since I worked on these blocks.

Step 3 - I was hoping to finish this by Veterans Day 2022.
We can see how well that timeline worked!
Maybe Veterans Day 2023 will be more like it!

Projects with LOTS to finish

Strips that have been sewn together and now need to be cut to be re-sewn together as 9 patches.

And new projects for the shop.

There are lots!

Here’s one….

I am hoping to run this Moda Charm Pack Challenge throughout the month of January 2023.
Stay tuned while I work out the details.
There might be prizes involved!

So, Today is a thinking day, while I continue to heal

Day 8 after surgery, and doing lots of thinking.

Welcome to June!

 My how time flies!

It already is June - halfway through 2022.

Here is what we have been up to at Island Creations by Louise

Long Arm quilting services continues to be popular and so we are extremely busy.

Sadly we are almost three months out with our quilting for you.

Please try to plan your quilting and let us know if you have a deadline in your future for your quilt.

We will try to do our very best to meet your deadline.

On a happier note, I have several Block of the Month quilts in the works.

"Fabulous" by Charisma Horton, is a Block of the Month quilt that finishes 96" x 96" and uses beautiful fabrics from Michael Miller.  There are a series of video tutorials available on the Making it Fun YouTube channel which support you in your making of this quilt. It is a good project for the confident beginner as well as those who are more experienced.

I have a second version going using Jane Sassaman's Hand Dyed Solids from Free Spirit.

The shop currently has three lovely patterns from Sherry Shish that you can choose from, "Barn Quilt" , "Wave Pool" and "Lucky Stars".  All three have kits that have been assembled by the shop in fabrics that closely echo those of the pattern cover quilt. Of course you are welcome to choose your own fabrics.

Barn Quilt BOM is a 6-month confident beginner friendly pattern that is sure to wow! There are step by step instructions for the quilt and three bonus patterns using the blocks in the quilt. The quilt finishes at 72in x 84in

Wave Pool Block of the Month is a 6-month adventurous beginner friendly pattern that is sure to wow! There are step by step instructions for the quilt with monthly cutting instructions. The quilt finishes at 72"x84".

Looking for a beginner block of the month? This Lucky Stars BOM is a 9-month beginner-friendly pattern that can help you work on your skills as you make a lovely quilt which finishes finishes at 72in x 84in.

Also available is "Vintage Jewel", a ten month program suitable for the confident beginner.
The 72" x 86" quilt features the "Jot Dot" fabric line from Blank Fabrics

There are several more Block of the Month Programs in the works.  You can start any time or buy the kit and do it all at once!

We will have an all day "Block of the Month Sewing" day once a month on the shop calendar.

Come and sew with us for an hour or two or all day!

It will be fun working on one of these projects.

Check out the current month's shop calendar on the Calendar tab of this blog.  It will give you the dates and times of all of our special events as well as the dates and times for "Block of the Month Sewing"!

2-22-22

Today's date is a whole bunch of two's!!!

Another date that I won't ever see again - since I doubt that I will be around in 100 years.

It was a busy day since of course I had to have a sale on this memorable date.

Everything was 22% off in the shop with a few exceptions like end of the bolt which is 30% off.

So it was nice to see those I have not seen in quite awhile.

Well, this will be short as I am really tired and do not have too much to talk about today, except, of course, the date!

A memorable date for the century

2-2-22

Had to make a post labeled on this date!

Nothing much to talk about at the moment.

But, oh yes, the fabric!

A new line in the store this past week.

It is from Moda by Robin Pickens and is called "Carolina Lilies"

I just love it!

I will post the quilt top when I finish it.

Happy 2-2-22!

Louise,

on the island, looking at the date!

Happy New Year!

 Hello and Happy New Year!

Things are moving along at Island Creations by Louise.

Who would have thought last year that we would be so far into a new store with lots of new merchandise here and coming in soon!

We have new fabrics from Moda, Free Spirit, Riley Blake Designs, Andover and P& B Textiles to name just a few.  We also have a smattering of fabrics from Benartex (Eleanor Burns' line "Whisper Rose") and Timeless Treasures (Fabrics for "Fabulous" a block of the month program).

We are expecting MORE fabrics from all of the above in this new year.

Shipping has continued to be slower than what we would like to see.  But we do know that all involved are doing their best to provide you with new patterns and fabrics as quickly as possible. So as the new items come in we will let know know on our social media platforms on Facebook and Instagram as Island Creations by Louise.  If you don't already follow us, look us up today. I know you will be happy you did!

We have several Block of the Month patterns that we will be highlighting in 2022.  I hope you will join me once a month to work on the Block of the Month of your choosing. Check out the Block of the Month offerings on the table the next time you visit the shop.

Also new in '22 (wow, that rhymes!) will be the monthly class geared for new quilters scheduled on the Third Friday of the Month starting in February. (This class is also good for seasoned quilters!)  In February we will be working on the Jelly Roll Race Pattern.  With your class enrollment, you will be able to purchase ONE Jelly Roll at half price! Newer quilters will be encouraged to sew a consistent 1/4" seam while seasoned quilters will be challenged to finish their tops before lunch! More details will be coming on this challenge.

Finally, Sleep in Your Own Bed is back in February! Join us on Friday night February11 from 6 PM to 9 PM and again on Saturday, Febraury 12 from 9 AM to 4 PM for this popular event.  February will be Quilters's choice.

However, look ahead to the March SIYOB (March 11 and 12) when March's topic will be all things Diamond!  We have several patterns and ideas for quilts and table runners using the 60 degree Diamond Ruler/Tool from Creative Grids.  Stop in sometimes this month or next to see the samples. But in the meantime mark your calendars for these popular events!

Check back often to see what is new.

In the meantime Happy New Year!

Louise, on the island, waiting for the snow to begin!
